How can Luke Ridnour be mentioned in the same sentence as Derrick Rose other than: Luke Ridnour, donning a red jacket, black pants and some gloves, hastily fetched the 20-year-old's sleek black Mercedes, then opening the door, holding his hand out for a tip?
"Thanks, Mr. Rose."
The NBA All-Star results were released on Thursday, with the obvious at the top in Dwight Howard and LeBron James.
Dwayne Wade deservedly is atop the guard voting the east, and Rose ranks in the middle of the pack trailing names like Ridnour and Jameer Nelson.
To show you how absurd fan voting can be, Devin Harris is even further down the list trailing people like Allen Iverson who is second the list.
Sometimes, Democracies aren't so good. (See Iraq).
We know fan voting is a popularity contest, and I can remember when Alonzo Mourning once made the All-Star game, playing only two games due to injury. Same goes for Shaq.
It's the same kind of nonsense we hear when a national telecast is being performed on your team: People go off reputation.
Which is why this list is so dumbfounding. Iverson has never been a darling and he's put together a sloppy losing record since joining the Detroit Pistons, yet he is trailing Wade in voting.
Rose and Harris are leading underwhelming rosters to victory with both points and assists. The difference is, however, Rose is a true pass-first point. Harris is a gifted scorer.
NBA ballots work only a guard basis, not by point, scoring, small, etc. Ray Allen will likely get the nod as the starter, and it's hard to argue.
But ask NBA GM's and educated fans who the best point guard in the east is. They'd be reluctant to not name Harris or Rose.
Apparently Ridnour has breathe new life into the 315 Milwaukee Bucks' fans up there. We know it's not the same since Brett Favre left.
Why is it important for Rose to make the All-Star game anyway?
This team has needed a bona-fide leader for 10 years and a rookie appearance in the big mid-season game would let any incoming vet accept their roles...in theory.
It seems Larry Hughes has begun to accept that, which explains his better shooting.
Of course we know Rose is the centerpiece, but it also be a reminder to the other parts of the NBA that we have the game's next great point guard and his name is not Ridnour or Nelson.

I heard that last night and I couldn't believe it. what a joke. Who would actually believe that Ridnour is in any kind of all star consideration. it tells me how little fans pay attentions
it's not that fans pay little attention, it's just that they're biased
Ridnour probably has a nicer car than Rose.
